There is plenty to do at Hilton Head during the holidays, with many special events and activities through the month. If you need more, Savannah and Beaufort make for great day trips, both offering beautiful historic districts and a range of historic and cultural attractions.
The island is decorated for the holidays, with lights displays at Shelter Cove and Harbour Town; you can also enjoy a selection of Christmas concerts, holiday performances, children’s activities, and more.
Although some restaurants offer shorter hours from December onwards, you can expect most places to be open as usual, with winter deals making this a great time to enjoy the best of Hilton Head Island’s dining establishments. Good rates are usually available in the island’s accommodations too.
Weather during the holiday season is often perfect for outdoor activities, with frequent sunshine and warm afternoons (although mornings and evenings can be cool, and it will seldom be warm enough for sitting on the beach). Be prepared for some variability, however: cold and wet days are quite possible at this time of year.
Other things to do in Hilton Head in December include golfing at one of the area’s many excellent courses. Kayaking and dolphin-watching trips should still be available this month, as should fishing charters. Warm December days are ideal for hiking, biking and bird watching, whether at the nearby Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge or on Hilton Head’s own bike paths and beaches.
