Hilton Head in January is a peaceful but enjoyable time of year to visit, without the crowds that can descend upon the island from spring through fall, but with the possibility of finding a good deal on accommodation. If not all of your interests are reliant on the weather – which can be unpredictable in January – it is quite possible to have a very pleasant winter visit to the island.
January weather in Hilton Head Island is highly variable. Temperatures can fluctuate enormously, with daytime highs ranging from down in the 40s up into the 70s or even the 80s within the space of a couple of days. Warm and sunny days are quite possible, but by no means guaranteed.
Although the cooler temperatures generally preclude days at the beach, milder January days are perfect for outdoor sports like golf, tennis, or cycling along the island’s extensive bike paths and beaches. Other activities to enjoy in Hilton Head in January include various historical and nature tours, concerts, performances, and exploring local Gullah culture and history.
