Hilton Head in July is hot, crowded and expensive — this is the peak season for summer family vacations. For this reason, many visitors who have a choice in which time of year to visit prefer the more clement months of late spring and early fall.
July 4th weekend is very busy on Hilton Head, with the island’s fireworks displays attracting enormous crowds. This is generally about the busiest month, and advance reservations, whether for restaurants, accommodation, or even for many activities, are a necessity throughout July.
The weather in July is hot and humid, with highs ranging from the upper 80s to the 90s, although cooling breezes from the ocean provide some relief. Humidity can remain high even at night, and afternoon thunderstorms and rain showers are common, usually lasting no longer than 30 minutes.
Activities in Hilton Head in July predominantly revolve around the beach, pool, and ocean. Visitors can enjoy a variety of water sports, including kayaking, paddleboarding, wakeboarding, jet skiing, and parasailing. Dolphin tours and boat charters to explore the local creeks and marshes are also popular options.
During the cooler parts of the day, hiking in Hilton Head’s nature reserves or biking along its extensive bike paths can be enjoyable activities. Golfing is another option, again best scheduled for the cooler early morning hours.
