October is a great month for all of Savannah’s activities: still warm enough for water-based activities such as kayaking, and ideal for outdoor sightseeing, hiking and nature-watching, picnicking and the like. In the event of a cooler or rainy day, there is also plenty to do indoors, from museums and art galleries to historic houses, shopping and dining.

Consult the weather forecast before setting out, but in general for an October visit to Savannah you should pack primarily warm-weather clothing, with additional layers and a light jacket for cooler mornings/evenings and cloudy days.

As always in Savannah, an umbrella is advised. Insect repellent is useful if you are visiting nature sites, plus sunscreen for other occasions when you will be spending a lot of time outdoors.

Hurricanes are a distinct possibility in Savannah through October. Purchase appropriate insurance if possible if you will be booking your travel ahead of time. In the event of a tropical storm or hurricane, follow all local advice and be prepared to evacuate if required.
