Brunswick offers a range of historic attractions and access to the beautiful marshes of the Georgia coast, but it is primarily known as the gateway to the Golden Isles, the group of coastal barrier islands behind which the city lies.
Jekyll and St Simons Islands are the best known, both popular vacation destinations bringing visitors from far afield, many of whom may arrive via the airport at Savannah.
The easiest way to travel between Brunswick and Savannah or its airport is to drive. As the 80-mile trip only takes around 1.5 hours, a visit to the Brunswick area from Savannah or to Savannah from Brunswick is also suitable as a day trip.
Alternatives are to take a taxi or rideshare (both available to or from either Savannah’s airport or elsewhere in the city), or for a more budget-friendly option, the bus.
Other alternatives are impractical. It isn’t convenient to travel between Savannah and Brunswick by train, as the nearest train station to Brunswick is in Jesup, 40 miles away. Nor is it convenient to fly. Although Brunswick is served by direct flights from Atlanta, there are no current commercial scheduled flights available between Savannah and Brunswick and the Golden Isles.
