Savannah in May is very warm and usually sunny, with the city’s May weather straddling the warm but changeable days of spring and the persistent, extreme heat and humidity of summer. This is usually a great time to visit Savannah, provided you don’t mind hotter temperatures: average highs this month are well into the 80s, with many days much hotter still.
Savannah events in May include the Savannah Scottish Games, the Doggie Carnival in Forsyth Park and Savannah Comic Con. The SCAD Sand Arts Festival is a May highlight over in nearby Tybee Island.
Savannah’s weekly farmers market runs year round, and there are usually also several shows, concerts and other performances to enjoy during May, along with special events at local attractions, races, and other goings on.
There is no shortage of other things to do in Savannah in May, from sightseeing in the beautiful Historic District, historic house tours and museums, food tours, Black history tours, boat tours of the Savannah River, enchanting Bonaventure Cemetery, nearby nature sites, kayak excursions, and several beaches within a short drive of the city
Memorial Day weekend gets very busy in Savannah and neighboring Tybee Island, and it is advisable to make reservations in advance for visits around this time. Trips to the beach, in particular, are enormously popular over the holiday weekend, so set out as early as possible to beat the traffic.
