Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport is the main airport serving Savannah and its vicinity. Savannah’s airport receives domestic flights from several US destinations, but except for a seasonal service from Toronto, does not currently receive non-stop international flights. This is also the primary airport for flights to the barrier island vacation towns of Tybee Island, GA and Hilton Head, SC. It serves the Golden Isles area of Brunswick, Jekyll, St Simons and Sea Island along the lower Georgia coast too.

Several rental car companies provide rentals directly out of Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. Rentals are available from Alamo (8am-1am), Avis (7am-12:30am), Budget (7am-12:30am), Dollar Rent A Car (8am-12am), Enterprise (8am-12am), Hertz (6:30am-1am), National (8am-1am), Payless Car Rental (7am-11pm) and Thrifty Car Rental (7am-12am).
The respective rental companies’ desks are located right next to the baggage claim area, inside the airport, with car pick up a short walk away, under covered lots located adjacent to the terminal.
If booking your car in advance, please note that the desk hours of the different rental companies vary. It is advisable to check current opening hours before reserving a vehicle if you expect to arrive at the airport after 11pm or before 8am. See current list of rental companies’ contact details
Parking is offered on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. The hourly rate is $1 per hour. The daily and weekly rates vary according to the lot chosen: $5, $8 or $12 per day and from $35, $40 or $60 per week.
A Tesla Supercharger electric vehicle charging station is available at the airport, located in the Economy parking lot, and 5 PEP Electric Vehicle charging stations are available in the Long Term/Hourly parking lot.
Drive time to Savannah’s Historic District is around 20-25 minutes (12 miles), and to the Midtown district around 25-30 minutes (15 miles). It is 45-55 minutes to either Tybee Island or Hilton Head (28 and 40 miles, respectively), and 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 30 minutes to Brunswick and the Golden Isles (75-80 miles). A flat rate system applies for taxi and shuttle services between Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport and downtown Savannah and certain area destinations. A full list of places to which a flat-rate fare applies is available here. For other destinations, the metered fare will be charged.
The basic fare to Savannah’s downtown Historic District is $28. To Hutchinson Island it is $34, to Tybee Island $53, and to Hilton Head either $80 or $85, depending on destination. Where more than one passenger is traveling, a surcharge of $5 per additional person applies for journeys within Georgia, and $10 per person for journeys out of state.
Outside of surge pricing periods, an Uber or Lyft ride from Savannah airport to downtown will cost around $15-$25 for an UberX or Lyft (up to four passengers) or $30-$40 for an UberXL or Lyft Plus (up to six passengers) depending on exact destination and travel time. A small additional fee applies for airport pick ups.
You will need to have the Uber or Lyft app installed on your phone. After booking your ride, meet your driver at the airport’s rental car exit. There will usually be drivers available nearby and you should not have to wait more than a few minutes.
Please note that surge pricing can raise the fare by several multiples of the base price; you will be notified of any additional fare at the time you book your ride.
Many hotels, particularly chain hotels situated in the vicinity of the airport, offer free shuttle services to and from the airport. Please inquire directly with your chosen hotel for further details.
Chatham Area Transit (CAT), Savannah’s local bus network, provides cheap and convenient transportation to and from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, via its 100X Airport Express route (another service, Route 3, passes by the airport but does not stop at the terminal).
This route provides nonstop service between the airport and Savannah’s downtown bus station, the Joe Murray Rivers, Jr Intermodal Transit Center. The bus station is conveniently located just to the west of the Historic District, not far from the Visitors Center and many downtown hotels. See on map
From there, you can either connect with another bus service (including Greyhound and Southeastern Stages intercity coaches), take a taxi, or walk to your final destination.
The 100X Airport Express operates daily: once per hour, from 6am to 6:30pm Monday to Saturday (last trip to the airport at 6pm, last trip from the airport at 6:30pm) and from 9:30am to 5pm Sundays and holidays (last trip to the airport at 4:30pm, last trip from the airport at 5pm).
