Tybee Island in March is usually becoming more active again after the winter lull in visitors, as this month marks the beginning of the island’s vacation season. Outside of the period around St Patrick’s Day you will typically find Tybee to be neither deserted nor especially crowded.
March weather in Tybee Island is still somewhat unpredictable, but less so than the winter months, with plenty of warm days and sunshine, albeit with the possibility of cooler days and rain.
Typical daily high temperatures are in the upper 60s, but occasional highs into the 80s are possible, especially toward the end of the month. It is still possible to experience quite cold weather at this time of year, but if it is sunny it will often heat up by mid day.
The biggest March event in Tybee Island is the annual St Patrick’s Day Irish Heritage Celebration and parade, the smaller counterpart to the immensely popular St Patrick’s celebration in downtown Savannah.
March usually also brings the start of the farmers market season at the Tybee Island Lighthouse, and there are often several local musical and other performances scheduled during the month.
Most Tybee Island activities are available in March. Many people will find the ocean far too cold for swimming this month, but other beach activities and water sports such as kayaking will be enjoyable on warmer days. March weather is often just right for other outdoor activities such as hiking, boat excursions or walks on the beach. Pack layers though, as the wind can be cold.
