Things To Do In Tybee Island In April

Tybee Island in April is often warm and sunny, but without the crowds of summer. This is a great month to visit the island if you don’t plan on centering your activities solely around the beach. Although beautiful spring weather is typical this month, it is still quite possible to have a few cooler days.

Although visitor numbers don’t usually increase too much until after Memorial Day, Tybee is a popular spring break destination, so there can sometimes be light crowds this month around the more visited South Beach area of the island.

Tybee Island events in April include the Tybee Turtle Trot 5K race and the Tybee Wine Festival (sometimes, otherwise, in early May). There is also a weekly farmers market at the lighthouse, and there are usually several local musical or other performances scheduled this month too.

Although some people (especially those visiting from colder climates) will find Tybee Island warm enough for all beach activities in April, including swimming, others will find it still a little cool. Activities such as kayaking or paddle boarding are usually enjoyable this month, along with boat tours to see dolphins, or excursions to nearby Little Tybee Island or other local nature sites.

On cooler days, there is the Tybee Island Lighthouse and Museum, Fort Pulaski or, nearer to Savannah, Fort Jackson. Day trips into Savannah, or to Beaufort, Bluffton or other nearby places are another possibility.
