Tybee Island in February is quiet, as is the case throughout the winter months, when it is too cold for the beach. February visitors will usually be sharing the island with many more locals than tourists!
February weather in Tybee Island is extremely variable, with cold, cloudy weather or warm, sunny days in the 70s both possible. On warmer days it can be warm enough for a walk on the beach, especially toward the end of the month, but cold winds can sometimes make the oceanfront an unwelcoming place for all but the hardiest visitors.
Pack warm clothes for colder days and for mornings and evenings, but layers are best as it can feel much warmer from the later morning into the afternoon. Although February isn’t as wet as the summer months, an umbrella is always a good idea.
In the absence of beach weather, things to do in Tybee Island in February are mostly limited to attractions such as Fort Pulaski and the Tybee Island Lighthouse, or trips into Savannah (only 30 minutes away by car) or Beaufort.
On warmer days, it is possible to enjoy a boat trip or even a kayak tour, with destinations including the adjacent Little Tybee Island or the more distant Wassaw or Ossabaw Islands.
If you are interested in any specific activities, inquire with the business directly to check they are open in the off-season, but generally it should be possible to find bike rentals, boat tours, kayak tours and the like year-round. Many restaurants are likewise open all year.
Tybee Island events in February include the Critz Tybee Run Fest, with a selection of races of different lengths, and Tybee Island Restaurant Week, which offers discounted dining at local restaurants.
Super Museum Sunday, also typically in February, allows free admission to several local historic sites, on Tybee itself and nearby. Tybee’s annual Mardi Gras parade and street party can also fall this month (otherwise, March).
