Tybee Island in January is very quiet, with few tourists in town. Although the weather this month is typically unpredictable, visitors from colder climates can still enjoy a January visit to Tybee. Accommodation bargains can often be found, especially for longer stays.
It is possible to get warm, sunny weather in the 70s in January, although it is equally possible for it to be cool and wet, with cold winds off the ocean. On warmer days, however, the weather is often good enough for walks on the beach, hiking or even a boat trip, and other outdoor sightseeing. Pack layers for a January trip, as even on colder days, it can warm up rapidly by the end of the morning if the sun is out.
Tybee Island events in January include the New Year’s Day Polar Plunge, the annual Martin Luther King Parade, and Tybee Island Restaurant Week. Local musical and theatrical performances are also often scheduled.
Other things to do in Tybee Island in January include the Tybee Island Lighthouse, nearby Fort Pulaski, hiking in local nature reserves, or the many attractions of Savannah, about 30 minutes drive away. Most restaurants in Tybee Island are typically open year-round, but again, there is always Savannah if you feel like more choice.
