Tybee Island in December is usually quiet, with mostly locals on the island at this time of year. December weather can be very variable. The average daily high this month is in the 50s, but it might be warm and sunny with temperatures in the 70s or even into the 80s, or down close to freezing with a cold wind off the ocean.
Tybee Island events in December mostly focus around the holiday season. There is usually a Christmas parade and lighted boat parade this month, plus special holiday events at the Tybee Island Lighthouse, and usually also some local musical and other performances. Closing out the year is one of the biggest New Year’s fireworks displays in the southeast.
Other things to do in Tybee Island in December are highly dependent on the weather. On warm, sunny days outdoor activities such as boat tours or even a kayak trip may be pleasant, along with hiking and biking on Tybee Island and walks on the beach.
Fort Pulaski is right next to Tybee Island, and there is also the Tybee Island Lighthouse and Museum and the Tybee Marine Science Center to visit on any less clement days. Off Tybee Island itself are several nearby nature spots, the many attractions of downtown Savannah, or the nearby historic cities of Beaufort or Bluffton.
