Factors Walk, with its network of pedestrian footbridges, is an architecturally unique part of Savannah’s riverfront landscape. The area was developed in the mid-19th century as a way to link the warehouses of River Street to the rest of the city on the bluff, providing the cotton factors who worked there an easy way to get to their offices.
Today, many of these former offices and warehouses are occupied by shops, cafés and restaurants, accessed via the same little walkways and bridges that the factors used in times past.
Along Factors Walk are several gift stores and shops selling a range of antiques, art, clothes, books, wines and more. River Street, accessible via ramps and stairs from Factors Walk, offers many additional shops, although you will find most of them to be geared toward the needs of the souvenir hunter.
When deciding when to visit, please bear in mind that some Savannah shop owners can be fairly casual in their approach to opening hours.
