River Street Restaurants, Pubs & Cafés

Evening view of River Street's Rousakis Plaza and busy restaurants.

Interspersed with the many shops that line Savannah’s riverfront are two dozen or so restaurants, pubs and cafés. In the evenings and on weekends, River Street is generally lively, with outdoor dining and live music adding to the ambience.

Seafood is the mainstay of River Street’s restaurants. Several places specialize in fish and shellfish dishes, be it southern-style fried or steamed shrimp, crab and oysters, or more classically presented dishes, and almost all establishments along the riverwalk offer a selection of seafood dishes in some way or form.

Most of the establishments along Savannah’s waterfront do cater fairly heavily to the tourist crowd, and may not always be the finest dining in the city. For many, though, the draw of a river view or an outdoor patio outweighs the higher prices and sometimes unexceptional fare.

Vegetarians hoping to dine on the riverside will find their choices extremely limited, although many restaurants do offer one (usually uninspired) meat- and seafood-free option.
