March is one of the best and most popular times to visit Savannah, along with the other spring and fall months.
From around the middle of March through into April, the city’s thousands of azaleas are usually in full bloom. Several of Savannah’s outdoor highlights – including its squares, Bonaventure Cemetery and Forsyth Park – are at their most beautiful during the azalea season.
The weather is warm but not too hot – although rain is a possibility – and getting to be just right for outdoor activities, whether sitting in Savannah’s many parks or exploring the lowcountry’s barrier islands and wildlife refuges (but wait until April if you want to go to the beach).
St Patrick’s Day is Savannah’s biggest event, with celebrations and ceremonies planned for several days either side of March 17 each year. This is also the month in which several other popular festivals are usually held, including the Savannah Stopover, Savannah Music Festival and the Tour of Homes and Gardens.
