Black History Tours In Savannah, GA

Several tours in Savannah explore aspects of the city’s African-American history. Most are led by guides who specialize in this topic, with occasional tours offered by general-interest guide companies.

Most tours are guided tours of Savannah’s principal black heritage sites and attractions (for more on these see here), often focusing on the city’s legacy of slavery and the experiences of its large African-American population through the period of slavery and their transition to freedom.

Occasional tours also address the culture and history of the local Geechee people, part of the Gullah-Geechee cultural corridor stretching up through coastal Georgia and South Carolina (Gullah usually refers to people from this ethnic group originating in South Carolina and Geechee to those from Georgia).
